The Ledges at Red Rock Golf Trail
A Last Minute Golf Vacation Idea
So I'm sitting here in the office, dreaming about that last beautiful 115 yard shot with my 7-iron for birdie, and I can't help but surf the web for a great last minute golf vacation. But it's got to be fast, easy, and exciting. Then I remember St. George, Utah and the Red Rock Golf Trail.
Triple Threat I've done St. George before and know how it's easy to access, away from the crowds and has some really impressive golf, so here's how to get it done.
1. Convenient Travel Options First, getting there! A lot of groups like to fly into Las Vegas because of cheap flights, and it's only a short 90-minute drive north on I-15 from there. But I know better. I fly right into SGU. Yeah, it costs $50-100 more in airfare, but it saves me 4 hours of travel each way, and once you've gone through SGU you'll agree there's no better way to go. No TSA lines, curbside drop, and only 1 terminal. I guess you have to ask yourself, what's 4 hours of your time worth?
2. Easy to Navigate I love how everything in St George is only 15 minutes away. All the courses like Sand Hollow are only 15 minutes drive from the hotels. If you're playing Coral Canyon and you want to get on Sunbrook in the afternoon, it's just a 15-minute drive. That means a whole lot more time driving golf balls and not driving in traffic.
3. Superb Food Every good golf trip has to have good food on the itinerary, and boy does St. George have you covered there. If you haven't tried the Anasazi steak house yet, you'll be blown away. They bring you your choice fillet with a volcanic Hot Stone for you to cook to perfection, right at your table. That way every last bite is as warm and perfectly cooked as the first. Combine that with their chocolate or cheese fondue and you can't go wrong.
All in, airfare included, I'm looking at about $790 for a 4 nights, 4 rounds stay and play package in St. George. And right now, the views of the Red Rock Golf Trail are looking a lot better than the view in my office. It's golf time!

Keep Your Feet in the Game by Matthew Nations – Assistant Golf Professional
What is the key to a good golf game? Practice, short game, patience, and having fun. There isn't a right or wrong answer but there is a starting point to a good golf game.
Building consistency in your golf game starts from the ground up so in order to ensure a more consistent ball flight you must practice your footwork. There is a simple drill we use to help our golfers get a feel for proper footwork in the golf swing.
Line up with a target like you would with a golf club.
Hold a golf ball in your throwing hand and extend your arm back like you're about to throw the ball.
Throw the ball 20-25 yards towards your target and freeze your body as soon as you let go of the ball.
When you extend your arm back to throw the ball both feet should be planted on the ground. When you release the ball you should have your body weight planted on your lead foot while your trail foot points to the ground. You should be able to see the sole of your trail foot. These same steps apply to the golf swing. When you reach the top of your back swing both feet should be planted on the ground. When you reach the finishing point in your golf swing your weight should be on your lead side. Think of it like this: As you're swinging through the ball, force your body weight to go in the direction you want theball to go. If you practice getting your body weight to finish on your lead side consistently you will start striking the golf ball more consistently and get consistent results.
